Part 31 of 43 Individual Scenes from \u2018Rise of Skywalker\u2019<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Remember Scene 25<\/a>? This is the second half of Rey’s deeply obnoxious interaction with the ghost of Luke Skywalker on that island full of Porgs he secluded himself on. That was bad, if anything this is worse, all the smug satisfaction of Luke’s hectoring reappearance condensed into him standing ramrod straight, holding himself like a playing card monarch and moving his grotty old X-wing around like he’s conducting a symphony. Why isn’t Rey, the protagonist of this movie, performing the great feat of conquering your inner demons and silencing the mind? Is it common for the ultimate goal of a teacher to be the adulation of their students? Yet another reminder why his awful school failed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then it’s back to the Resistance base, because it’s time for C3P0 to get his memories back. Of the film’s many fake-out deaths, this one bothers me least: It’s exactly C3P0’s kind of misfortune to have bravely sacrificed himself in a way that’s trivially undone, and for it to happen at the hands of his knowing little friend R2D2 is appropriate. The dialogue between them is also simple, funny and well done, not going too hard on C3P0’s arrogance or dimwittedness as he wildly misinterprets the recent events of his life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of returning to the Resistance base is so we can see their mild excitement at receiving a transmission from Luke(‘s X-Wing.) I’m not surprised that they don’t seem too blown away by what seems to be the ghost of Luke sending them radio messages. He certainly seems to be able to do everything else. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But it’s Rey of course, Rey has shrunk herself down to the size of a cell and is flying through a giant blood vessel to get to Exegol. All the bozos back at base are going to follow her. Brief shot of people running around the Resistance base set – how many times did they film people running around this set? Lando’s here! Presumably in recognition of the implausible nature of sending Maz Kanata out to inspire hope, this time it’s Lando filling in what should obviously be Leia’s role here, of doing some political canvassing for support back at whatever central galactic community exists that we never see in this film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
